Entire sewage pipeline at Old Market to be replaced, assures PWD

MARGAO: Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) Deepak Pauskar on Wednesday said that the concerned contractor has been asked to replace the total stretch of sewage pipeline with regard to the sinking of a large portion of National Highway at Old Market, Margao.

He also said that the work was rejected in 2019 itself when PWD had conducted the inspection of the said sewage work. He along with Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’sa and all other concerned officials inspected the missing link bypass road at Lotoulim.

“The work pertaining to sewage pipeline from South Goa District Collector complex to Old Market was inspected in 2019 and PWD was not satisfied with the work,” he said.

He said now, the whole stretch of sewage line will be replaced and the concerned contractor has already started the work. The contractor has been asked to remove and replace it with the new one. “The total sewage pipeline is faulted. We are not ready to accept the reasoning cited by the contractor. It has proven that work has not been done properly and the contractor will not be paid extra for new work”, said Deepak.

With regard to the missing link bypass road at Lotoulim Minister said that we had a plan to open the bypass road and hence the inspection was held.

“After the inspection, it was noticed that there are several issues which need to be resolved before the opening of the road. All the issues will be discussed at the meeting scheduled on Monday. We have called all the concerned officers including the Water Resources Department”, he said.
