Says Tamnar line will be lifeline for the people of Goa over the period of time given the rate at which our power requirements are in rise

PANJIM: Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral said on Monday reiterated that the State of Goa requires the Tamnar power line project given the phenomenal increase in power requirement of the State.

“We require the Tamnar line as it will be lifeline for the people of Goa over the period of time given the rate at which our power requirements are increasing,” said Cabral.

It may be recalled that there have been state-wide campaigns against the three linear projects, which included the Tanmar project and Cabral, the then Power Minister was often criticised for his stance on the project.

He also said that he still favours non-depiction of port limits in the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).

This was in response to recent direction the State received where their request for exclusion of Port Limits from the CZMP was rejected.  This had led to protests in the State.

Cabral said he will demand the non-depiction of Port limits in the CZMP with the Central government.

“Port Limits should not be shown in CZMP for the whole of Goa. It has to be restricted only within MPT area. Other states have also not shown them,” said Cabral.
