MARGAO: The Episcopal Ordination of Auxiliary Bishop Rev Simião Purificação Fernandes will take place on Monday, June 17 at the Sé Cathedral, in Old Goa.
15 bishops from across the country are expected to descend upon the historic Sé Cathedral, in Old Goa for the 3:30 pm consecration ritual. Numerous government officials and bureaucrats will also be present.
In order to plan and organise the Episcopal Ordination a committee has been constituted with the laity, religious and priests of the Archdiocese.
Arrangements have even been made to accommodate the faithful who have registered through their parishes to witness this sacred rite in person.
To facilitate widespread participation, the offices at the Archbishop’s house, Diocesan centers, and Diocesan seminaries will remain closed on June 17.
Furthermore, the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media will provide a live streaming feed and photographs to media outlets, allowing the faithful to experience the ceremony without disrupting its solemnity.
Parking provisions have been carefully coordinated, with separate areas designated for priests, private vehicles, two-wheelers, and buses bearing parish names. The authorities have urged attendees to cooperate with traffic police and volunteers to ensure an orderly event befitting its ecclesiastical eminence.
Two months ago, On April 6, Pope Francis named Fr Simiao Fernandes, 56, as the Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman.
Bishop-elect Fernandes, a native of Chandor, Goa, has served as a priest for 30 years.
