‘Erring’ Margao municipal official removed from his responsibilities

Engineer applies for sick leave for two months

MARGAO: The concerned engineer of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) who has been caught red-handed in “hiding” the important files, has been removed from his responsibilities.

Sources said before taking the new charge at Sonsoddo dump yard, the concerned engineer has applied for sick leave for two months however he is seen moving in the municipality’s office.

It may be recalled that at the recently council meeting frustrated councillors had exposed the concerned engineer for “hiding” important files pertaining to the Sonsoddo dump yard. During the search operation the councillors found several files in the cabin of the concerned engineer which were not supposed to be on his table.

Thereafter, council resolved to remove the engineer from all the responsibilities of concerned wards and deploy him at the Sonsoddo dump yard.

MMC chairperson Lyndon Pereira said the concerned engineer has already been removed from the earlier responsibilities, and new directions will be issued to him through the Chief Officer to take charge of Sonsoddo dump yard.

“However, it has been brought to the notice that he has applied for the sick leave for nearly two months. The reasons cited may be genuine but at the same time we have doubts that he is trying to escape the new responsibilities”, he said.

A few days ago, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had instructed the Council to initiate action against the concerned engineer.

The chairperson said the civic body has taken serious note of the issue pertaining to the missing files.

“Upon government order, a new municipal engineer has joined the civic body, and a note has been put so that the new officer should monitor the movement of the files once entered”, Lyndon added.
