ESI official suspended over alleged irregularities

PANJIM: Dr Anil Chauhan, insurance medical officer of ESI Scheme, has been placed under suspension for committing alleged irregularities, with immediate effect. 

The suspension order was issued by the Directorate of Vigilance.

It is learnt that Dr Chauhan was allegedly involved in irregularities in the purchase of medicines for the ESI Hospital. 

He purchased costly medicines and allowed them to lapse beyond expiry date. 

Also he procured medicines to treat hemophilia patients, but the medicines did not reach to the patients. Similarly, he purchased medicines for treating cancer patients and allowed them to rot thereby wasting crores of rupees. After the matter was reported to the Labour Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, he immediately handed over the matter to the vigilance department for investigation.

During the suspension period, Dr Chauhan has been asked to report to the office of the Commissioner of Labour and Employment and not to leave the headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority.
