EU Calls India “Indispensable” Ahead of Republic Day, Pledges Strategic Reset

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations and the 16th EU-India Summit on January 27, EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas emphasized a “pivotal reset” in ties with India. Addressing the European Parliament, she called India indispensable for Europe’s economic resilience and outlined plans for cooperation in trade, technology, security, and people-to-people ties. The summit will adopt a comprehensive strategic agenda toward 2030, with concrete deliverables. Key initiatives include concluding the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, signing a Security and Defence Partnership, and a mobility cooperation framework. Kallas highlighted collaboration in clean energy, AI, semiconductors, and maritime security, emphasizing that Europe and India share a responsibility to uphold international law amid global geopolitical challenges.
