MARGAO: Several Fair Price Shop (FPS) owners have complained that they are yet to receive their quota for the month of September and that too at the time when Ganesh Chaturthi is fast approaching.
Reliable sources stated that the civil supply department is short of stock at the godown located at Cortalim, however, officials failed to respond to the continuous phone calls to find exact situations, when called.
One of the FPS owners from Salcete taluka informed O Heraldo that many are yet to receive their quota for the month and this has forced them to put notice boards in front of their shops informing the beneficiaries that there was no stock.
It is pertinent to note that in the month of August, the issue of maggot-infested rice was in discussion which had even reached the Goa Assembly session, wherein Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai expressed anger over the issue.
It was O Heraldo, who highlighted the issue with evidence till good quality rice was supplied to the beneficiaries.
Now, with the Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, thousands of beneficiaries who were eagerly waiting for the quota are left disappointed.
One FPS owners told O Heraldo, that he had collected the quota for the month of September but many in the Salcete taluka are yet to receive their stock from the godown located at Cortalim.
“I had noticed shortage of stock at the in the last week of August. The officials at the godown had informed me that they were yet to get addittional stock,” informed the FPS owner.
Ramkrishna Salgaonkar, Civil Supplies Inspector failed to respond to the repeated phone calls in order to throw more light on the issue.
