PONDA: It’s been over seven years, the residents of Ponda, Kavlem, Bandora and Curti have been suffering on account of bad roads which have been dug for laying sewerage which are yet to be restored to their original condition. According to locals, this year, even Lord Ganesh received jolts travelling on the pothole-ridden roads.
It is pertinent to note that the roads have developed potholes and due to this people have been inconvenienced. Commuters have complained of suffering from backache on account of the bumpy ride which has also resulted in the wear and tear of their vehicles.
Social worker Premanand Gaude complained that the roads have been dug for laying underground electricity cables and the authorities concerned are least in restoring them. He said the condition of roads has turned from bad to worse that even Lord Ganesh ‘received jolts’ travelling on the pothole-ridden roads.
During summer, the residents had to face dust pollution and now during monsoon, the roads have turned slippery. There have been incidents wherein commuters including two pregnant women riding pillion sustained injuries at Kavlem and Usgao after falling off bikes while negotiating the pothole-ridden roads.
He said it’s high time that the government restore these roads to their original state at the earliest to provide some relief to the people. Potholes resurface along Curti underpass
Meanwhile, potholes have resurfaced along the underpass at Curti which poses danger to motorists especially two-wheeler riders commuting along the route. It may be recalled that the authorities had recently undertaken the work to patch the underpass ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi festival; however, potholes have resurfaced following showers.
To add to the riders’ misery the underpass is poorly lit at night which poses grave danger.
Motorists experience difficulties in commuting along the Ponda-Usgao stretch as during rains it is near impossible to negotiate these potholes, which pose grave danger.
