Every student to be assigned with Permanent Education Number

Progress of all students from pre-primary to Std XII to be now tracked through 11-digit PEN; move to keep track on school dropouts, bring children back into education system

PANJIM: Every pre-primary, primary, school and higher secondary student in the State will now be assigned a unique Permanent Education Number (PEN), which will be used by the Directorate of Education to track the progress of the student and more specifically to track and bring dropouts back into the system. 

The Central government initiative is part of implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Director of Education Shailesh R S Zingde has asked all schools and higher secondary schools across the State to share the unique 11-digit PEN with all students. The unique number has been generated for each student from pre-primary to standard XII on the UDISE+ portal (https://udiseplus.gov.in). 

The Directorate of Education has asked all the heads of government, government-aided, unaided primary, secondary, higher secondary schools and special schools to share this Permanent Education Number (PEN) with all its students. PEN of the student along with the U-DISE Code of the will also have to be mandatorily mentioned on the Leaving Certificate of the student. 

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DOSEL), New Delhi has incorporated the student wise tracking system in U-DISE+ from the year 2022-23, so that the drop out children are identified and brought back into the education system. Subsequently, Permanent Education Number would be issued to parents, teachers, administrators and community members interacting with the student as defined in National Digital Enterprise Architecture (NDEAR).

UDISE+ is one of the largest management information systems initiated by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Reel making competition for students and teachers

The Directorate of Education will organise Reel Making Competition,open toall students and teachers.

In today’s digital age, where reels and short videos have become a powerful medium of expression, the competition aims to harness students and teachers creativity to promote messages of positivity and social change within the society.

The reels should be less than one minute duration and recorded in portrait mode. The contest must be free from violence and risky behaviour. Only one entry per individual will be allowed.

The last date to submit entries is May 30.
