MARGAO: Pre-poll eve politics Fatorda is getting murkier by the day. As reports of a non IPC related poll violation offence was registered against Ethel Lobo, Avinash Tavares and Nelson Fernandes, emerged, the Congress block has charged that it was in fact MLA Vijai Sardesai’s people who threw CD’s and stuck anti-Vijai posters on her car, to make out a case against her for distributing inflammatory material.
Commenting on the incident on Thursday night at Murida, the statement mentioned “Our members were patrolling in different areas. Two of our members in a car were stopped. One of them was hit. The Goa Forward members pushed books and CD’s inside the vehicle. They claimed that alcohol and money was being distributed. They were surrounded by a mob of nearly 100 supporters who were drunk and violent. That time too, the police responded and saved their lives.
Speaking to Herald, Ethel Lobo, recounting the incident said “Our car was surrounded by a drunk mob. While one lady started hurling abuses others started pushing CD’s in my car and started sticking leaflets on the car windscreen to give the impression that we were distributing material against Sardesai. It is me who called the PI and we later went to the police station. She said she and her friend were escorted by the police home late at night for her safety”. She said that no offence under IPC has been registered.
Commenting on one ‘Jose Silva’ releasing an advert “withdrawing in support of Sardesai, the block Congress statement stated “He (Vijai Sardesai) filed a dummy candidate having the same name as our candidate (Jose Silva) and then made him withdraw on the last day of nomination. Today (3/2/17) Vijai Sardesai put an advertisement in the newspaper claiming that Jose Silva has withdrawn in support of Vijai Sardesai. The fact is that this advertisement refers to his dummy candidate. We want to clarify that our candidate has not withdrawn from the contest and he has received so much support that his chances of winning are extremely high”.
“We are fighting this elections because the people of Fatorda are fed up of this type of gondagiri,”, the Congress block’s statement said.
