EVs to replace old KTC buses in Panjim, Taleigao, Altinho

PANJIM: The State government will replace the age-old vehicles run by the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) in the capital city and nearby areas with electric buses soon.

Speaking at an event organised to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the State-run Corporation, Transport Minister MauvinGodinho said, “We are short of buses. In a few days, after the ongoing National Games get over, all buses being run by KTCL in the Panjim city will be replaced with electric buses. Our proposal is ready. You will be surprised to see electric buses running in Panjim, Taleigao and Altinho. Our preparation is ready.”

The Minister said that the government is committed to improving transport infrastructure in the State.

Godinho claimed that “MhajiBus scheme” started by the State government is getting very good support from the private bus operators.

The minister further declared that the arrears of the Seventh Pay Commission will be given to employees of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited once funds are available.

“It is our responsibility. We will honour it,”Godinho assured KTC workers. At the same time, he mentioned that being a public transport service provider, KTC is running on a no profit no loss basis and is dedicated and committed to serve the society.

In May, 20 electric buses having features like CCTV cameras, panic buttons and automated digital fare collection, were inducted.

 into KTCL.The buses were flagged off by Chief Minister PramodSawant.

Chief Minister PramodSawant said, the government is seized of the issue of arrears of Seventh Pay Commission and assured the gathering to resolve it soon. 

KTC is like a family and needs to work to ensure it turns the wheels into profit. He urged the stakeholders to apply their ideas and to work together and acknowledged the association and dedication of those employees felicitated at the occasion.

KTC Chairman KTC and MLA UlhasTuenkar said that KTC has a successful history of four decades. During the course of the time, KTC has provided the cheapest bus service to the common men at the grass root level and living in remote areas. 

Kins of KTC employees who had excelled at the SSC and HSSC exams were felicitated by the Chief Minister.
