PORVORIM: Former Bastora sarpanch Alima Monteiro (63) passed away at a private hospital in Mapusa in the wee hours of Thursday.
Monteiro had been hospitalised last week and was undergoing treatment, where she breathed her last at about 4 am on Thursday.
Monteiro, who was elected as member of the Bastora panchayat for three terms, was was involved in social work at the St Cajetan church, Bastora, and across the village.
She is survived by her husband and two children. The final rites will be conducted at St Cajetan’s church, Bastora, on Friday at 3.30 pm.
