PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) land grabbing arrested former Canacona Sub-Registrar Premanand Dessai in a land grabbing case at Assagao.
Dessai was arrested for allegedly registering Succession Deed on the basis of falsely sworn documents. Investigating Officer has informed that the illegalities committed through the falsely claimed deeds run into crores of rupees.
It may be recalled that 80-year-old Eliterio Carvalho and Matilda Coutinho living alone in the house were robbed of his three properties. A complaint was filed before the SIT. During the course of investigation it was noticed that a Succession Deed was executed before the Sub Registrar of Canacona by showing the victim as a resident of Chaudi, Canacona.
The investigation revealed that the victim was a resident of Siolim and had no connection to Canacona. The police informed that important information was suppressed while executing the deed.
The accused in the crime on basis of this falsely sworn deed transferred several properties, the cost of which runs into crores of rupees, said police.
Certain documents that are mandatorily asked by the Sub-Registrar like the marriage certificate that registered before the registrar was not furnished in executing the Succession Deed, which came to light during the investigation.
On basis of all these misdeeds the police zeroed in on the Sub- Registrar and arrested Premanand Dessai for the offence.
Dessai is the third government official to be arrested in the land grabbing cases after Bardez Mamlatdar’s driver Yogesh Vazarkar and Bardez Mamlatdar Rahul Desai, arrested earlier in September.
