“My tributes to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes, who started the Civil Disobedience Movement against Portuguese Salazar’s dictatorial regime. These two men were the pioneers of the Goa Liberation Movement,” he said in his Goa Revolutionary Day message wishing all the people of the State.

“I am proud that the historic movement began in my hometown Margao. I was blessed with the opportunity to beautify and install the statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at the historic Lohia Maidan. I appeal to all to respect and take utmost care of all the living freedom fighters and their families. It is only because of their sacrifice we are enjoying the fruits of liberation of Goa,” the former CM said.

“Goa has changed in leaps and bounds in the last 75 years. Time has now come to look back and introspect. We need to work towards preserving our unique identity by preserving cultural heritage and traditions.
