MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has been forced to search for its former chief officer and recover the laptop and the official mobile phone from him.
Gazetted government officers have the privilege of having laptops and mobile phones from the office they are posted in. The officers when transferred have to hand over the same to the department concerned before resuming duty elsewhere.
A former MMC chief officer seems to be above this rule. Therefore, the MMC had to hunt for the former chief officer and take back the mobile number as well as the laptop.
The MMC store in-charge was under immense pressure as the mobile phone and laptop were not recovered. The former chief officer was reportedly not reachable. After waiting for two weeks the MMC sent some of its officials to Panjim and found the officer and got the articles recovered from him.
This is not the first case. In the past, a retired inspector was reportedly using the official phone number of MMC for a long time. The number was recovered from him in a similar manner.
