MARGAO: Former Fatorda Congress member Camilo Barretto and his wife along with 70-80 members of the Scheduled Tribe community joined the Fatorda BJP.
At the press briefing, the BJP has announced the entry of Camilo Barretto and Livramento Barretto and claimed that more people will join the party soon.
MP Narendra Sawaikar, BJP’s Fatorda candidate Damu Naik, Rupesh Mahatme and Arun Faldessai were present. Damu Naik said, “We welcome all the men and women in our party. We believe that they have joined us and endorsed the benefits and people-centric work we have done in the constituency.”
Camilo said, “We can say Damu is next Fatorda MLA. We have seen the work Fatorda BJP did in our constituency. I held a workers’ meeting yesterday and we decided that we will support Damu this election”.
“I commend the schemes that the Government has provided for the people of Goa especially the poor and I have joined the BJP as I am not sure any other Government will be able to continue the Griha Aadhaar and other schemes. This Government needs to come back to power. We have decided to elect BJP as Damu has promised that he will help the ST community by means of jobs and other support,” said Camilo.
When asked why he did not support the Congress, Camilo said, “Congress is shaky in Fatorda at present, mainly due to the last minute decision. People are in no mood to stay with Congress,” informed Camilo.
He said that there are 6000 ST voters in Fatorda and mentioned that it is the STs who ensure the victory of any candidate in coming elections.
