PANJIM: Former policeman Suraj Pendse, accused of cheating several people, was on Thursday arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police in Pune. The ex-constable is accused of using his ID to loot people through marketing apps and social media.
Pendse, who did not take up his posting, was wanted following a complaint of cheating filed by a Kundaim-based filmmaker last October. The complainant had accused Pendse of duping him to the tune of Rs 40,000 on pretext of selling a car. He has at least four other cases registered at other police stations. Sources said he was earlier arrested in connection with assaulting a man and threatening the latter’s daughter.
The alleged accused had been winning the confidence of the people by claiming he is the SDPO in Margao and would also disclose his Aadhar and police ID details.
