Former Goa Medical College (GMC) dean Dr M N Pal has denied statements that alleged his involvement in corruption during his tenure as an Examiner.
In a statement issued here, Dr Pal said that his deposition in the Sessions Court regarding a murder case was backed up with facts and reasons.
“The statement by the associate professor of forensic medicine (GMC) Dr Edmund Rodrigues were outbursts of his unwarranted baseless impulsive annoyance, as his post-mortem report in the case of Vasant Shastikar were countered by Dr Pal stating as inconsistent and false, duly backed up with facts and reasons during the depositions made before the Court,” he said.
Dr Rodrigues while deposing as prosecution’s witness in the case had alleged that Dr Pal was involved in taking money while functioning as an Examiner for the medical students.
The doctor has also stated that Dr Pal had never conducted autopsies during his service.
Replying to this, Dr Pal, who also holds LLM degree with specialization in medical negligence said that ‘there are no regulations or statutes in the Medical Council of India wherein it is stated that expert medical witness appearing in a criminal case has to conduct post-mortem.’
