Ex-mayor Naik taunts Karishetty
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, JAN 13
Former Mayor Ashok Naik, on Thursday termed the decision by controversial coporator Nagesh Karishetty to withdraw from the forthcoming corporation elections, as a clear acceptance of all charges leveled against him.
“It was a pleasant surprise to read “vote of thanks” by Karishetty. His current action should have come immediately after his arrest in the pay parking scam by Goa Police in July 2008,” Naik, who plans to contest the CCP elections with BJP support, said.
Karishetty, who was involved in the pay parking scam, was given a place in the panel named by Taleigao legislator Babush Monseratte.
“We congratulate the people of ward 8 and the Panjim in particular for voting out the “corrupt rotten apple”,” he said.
“The decision of Karishetty to opt out of CCP elections is a clear acceptance by him of all the corrupt practices that he has been indulging in the corporation. This means that he is aware of the scams and his involvement in them,” Naik said.
“But…the people of Panjim are wise enough to know that his opting out of the CCP elections does not excuse his crimes and will not accept such corrupt people again.” Naik stated.
Naik further said that the people are well aware of the scams in the CCP.
“The entire panel floated by Babush has some or the other allegations against them like casino office licence scam, garbage mismanagement, ghost workers scam, security guard tender scam, house tax scam etc,” he said adding “we are aware people of Panjim and Taleigao together will reject rest of 29 rotten apples along with the tree in coming elections”.
