MARGAO: Alleging that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLAs too are defectors, former minister Mickky Pacheco on Monday said they should resign and join Congress, instead of insisting for an alliance. He further said Congress should stop holding meetings with block committees if it wants an alliance with other political parties.
“Central leader Rahul Gandhi had made the party stand very much clear that no defector will be inducted back into the party, during his Goa visit. Defectors are not only those 10 MLAs who ditched Congress but also from the Nationalist Congress Party and Goa Forward”, he said.
He said he doesn’t understand why Congress leaders are engaged in talks for an alliance with others when the party is preparing to contest all 40 constituencies.
“Stop the membership drive or the meetings with block committees, if you want to have an alliance with other parties,” said Mickky.
He opined that the Congress doesn’t want an alliance but the parties and leaders who want to survive are in need of an alliance to sustain in politics.
“NCP was on a honeymoon with the BJP for the last four-and-half years. Just think that Goa Forward was in the government with BJP. Will it try to have an alliance with the Congress? GFP wants an alliance only because they are left out from the government”, said the Congress leader from Benaulim.
