Margao: Former tourism minister Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco has questioned the intention to open the Fatorda wholesale fish market with only a fortnight left for the fishing ban to commence.
“The SGPDA Market was started for Goan ramponkars and boat owners to sell their fish. Five people run this market by paying the chairperson and other MLAs associated with Ibrahim Maulana,” alleged Mickky.
“During the lockdown, Goan fishermen are happy to sell their fish in villages where Goans get it directly. There is no hurry to open up the SGPDA market when only fifteen days are left for the fishing ban to commence. It is only to help these five non-Goan fish agents, who want to sell their fish laced with formalin to Goans,” he charged.
“Let the SGPDA wholesale fish market remain closed until the coronavirus scare is gone. We have two months of fishing ban.Let Goans use this market as it was built for them and not for these non-Goan agents,” the former Nuvem MLA urged.
“If we reopen the SGPDA market, we will surely have more cases, unless the Goa Government wants to genocide Goans with formalin laced fish,” he warned.
