MARGAO: Former Velim MLA Felipe Neri Rodrigeus has finally decided to support the candidature of Mancy Rodrigues for the Velim seat.
That Felipe Neri has decided to throw his weight behind Mancy became evident on Saturday when he held a meeting of his supporters at his residence this evening.
He told his workers that he fully endorses Mancy’s candidature for the seat, saying that sitting ZP member Anthony Babush Rodrigues had stood behind him in his election.
Confirming the development, Felipe told Herald after the meeting that he would hit Mancy’s campaign from Sunday to drum up support for her candidature. “Since there are no candidates contesting the election from Velim on the party banner, Anthony requested me to support his sister-in-law Mancy for the seat. Anthony had stood by me in the past and was out of the fray because of the reservation,” he said, adding that he has decided to endorse Mancy’s candidature.
Incidentally, Felipe Neri’s meeting comes a day after Congress general secretary Joe Dias along with Velim Block Cong President Angel Xavier had a meeting at Joe’s residence in support of former ZP member Veena Cardozo.
A total of four candidates are in the fray for the Velim seat. They are Veena Cardozo, Mancy Rodrigues, Melcy Barretto and Pedrina Carodozo backed by Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva.
While both Benjamin and Joe Dias had hit the campaign trail for their respective candidates, Filipe Neri would do so for Mancy from Sunday with just two days left for campaigning to end for the March 18 ZP polls.
