Ex-MMC chief booked for assault

MARGAO: Margao Town Police have registered two cases against former Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Gonzango Rebello and against noted tiatrist Tony Dias and his wife Filipina D’Silva all three being residents of Mungul.

MARGAO: Margao Town Police have registered two cases against former Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Gonzango Rebello and against noted tiatrist Tony Dias and his wife Filipina D’Silva all three being residents of Mungul.
Gonzango has complained that Tony Dias and his wife Filipina abused his labourers and also threw stones at them. He also complained that Filipina forcibly took his mobile from him and damaged it besides abusing him and threatening him.
Further he complained that when he had gone to Hospicio for a medical check up Tony stopped him at the entrance and threatened to kill him.
In the cross complaint lodged by Filipina D’Silva she stated that Gonzango assaulted her with a danda due to which she has injury on her leg. She said the incident occurred when she had gone to ask him why he was constructing the soak pit even when the Municipal Council officials had asked him to stop the work following an inspection.
Police have registered cases against all three for causing hurt by dangerous weapons, insulting with intention to provoke breach of peace and also mischief under Sections 324, 504,506 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code.
However, a charge of insulting modesty of a woman has been levied against Gonzango under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
