PANJIM: Alfredo Bruto da Costa, former Minister for Health and Social Welfare of Portugal passed away on November 11 in Lisbon. He was 78 and had been suffering from an illness.
Born in Goa in 1938, Bruto da Costa studied engineering in Lisbon and was minister in the government of Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo between 1979 and 1980.
Condoling the death, Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that Bruto da Costa will be remembered for his fight for justice, equality and solidarity and major social developments in the past decades.
