MARGAO: A total lockdown was observed in Margao on Friday with no stores, except for pharmacies, open. The heavy downpower too discouraged people from venturing out.

However, there was some confusion as people expected grocery stores to be open. They were however closed as there was no clarity if grocery stores are allowed to be open or closed.

This affected some people who had moved out had gone to search for such stores to buy essential commodities.

Grocery aggregators come in handy for locals, even those from surrounding areas of Margao.

Orders have piled up for Posro, a mobile application aggregating groceries which was delivering essential groceries to the people of Margao and surrounding areas during the lockdown. “Posro is delivering fresh vegetables and groceries which make us feel extremely privileged to serve the people of Margao and other areas” said one of the promoters of the application Sharmad Kamat.

“Posro has got several calls today for deliveries and counting. I urged people from Margao and surrounding areas not to move out and use the convenient medium like ordering online or through the mobile application, to make sure we make the lockdown successful and save valuable lives” said another promoter Abhishek Kakodkar.

Police were seen manning the major junctions in Margao.

Some locals raised queries about the purpose of the lockdown when the borders are open.
