PANJIM: Though rainfall is considered to be good for paddy crop, incessant heavy rains that have been lashing the State over the last couple of days are hampering farming activities as low-lying areas remain submerged under water for long duration.
Heavy rains continued to lash Goa on Saturday, with total seasonal rainfall recorded so far reaching to 41 inches. Today, the capital city itself received 2 inches of rainfall.
Heavy rainfall warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa Observatory. The heavy rains that were received in equal proportion in almost all parts of the State have inundated low-lying areas used for paddy cultivation. The hilly terrains though have remained unaffected. Agriculture Director Satish Tendulkar said it will be good for farmers if the rains stop for a while as it will facilitate transplantation of paddy.
