PANJIM: Excise Commissioner Narayan Gad on Thursday disallowed the complaint filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues demanding suspension of the excise licence of ‘Silly Souls Café and Bar’ at Assagao and in-principle allowed to transfer the liquor licence in the name of Merlyn D’Gama, wife of late Anthony D’Gama, till the inventory proceedings initiated by her in the Civil Court at Mapusa are finalised.
The Commissioner said that the actual transfer of the liquor licence in the name of Merlyn will take place only on the production of her complete police antecedent report. Further, the issue as to whether a fine would have to be levied would be decided at the time of actual transfer of the liquor licence in favour of the person entitled for its transfer after the disposal of the inventory proceedings.
However, Adv Rodrigues said that he would challenge before the High Court the order passed by the Excise Commissioner over the illegally obtained liquor licence by the ‘Silly Souls Café and Bar’ allegedly run by the family of Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani.
