Excise Inspector held for accepting bribe

PANJIM: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a Central Excise Tax Inspector while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500 at the Central Excise office in Patto-Panjim.

Based on a written complaint from a Panjim-based businessman, CBI laid a trap and apprehended the officer, Kundan Lal, while accepting the bribe. 
The businessman, an AAP volunteer, is in the printing business. The arrested officer was demanding Rs 10,000 from the businessman to settle the annual returns and threatening him. However, the deal was brought down to Rs 6,500 after negotiation.
CBI also raided the officer’s residence at Taleigao and found 55 bottles of imported liquor which were then seized by Goa Excise Department.
The officer has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and will be produced before court in Panjim on Friday. 
Goa Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza confirmed that an offence has also been registered against Lal for storing unauthorized liquor which is beyond the permissible quantity.
