PERNEM: “Give us justice. Give us a counter at the taxi stand of Mopa Airport. These legitimate demands made by the taxi operators are yet to be fulfilled, and the government is adamant on providing app-based taxi services at Manohar Parrikar International Airport,” charged Taximen from Pernem.
They later urged the local MLAs to come out with a solution to the vexatious issue and warned about taking to the streets on January 2, if their demands were not met.
As per the taxi associations, almost every airport has a yellow and black taxi counter. Similarly, the government should open a taxi counter for yellow-black taxis operated by locals. However, the government has failed to call a joint meeting and discuss the issue.
The taximen gave an ultimatum to the government, failing which various associations under the banner of Together for Mopa will hold an agitation on January 2.
The government had assured jobs and business to locals at Mopa Airport. Hence, the government should open an exclusive counter for yellow and black taxis at Mopa airport.
