Expedite vaccination drive, Navelim MLA tells govt

MARGAO: Former chief minister and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro asked the State government to expedite the vaccination programme and urged people to get vaccinated when it starts in full swing from May 1, when vaccination of those above the age of 18 will be undertaken.

At a meeting with the Collector on Friday, Luizinho said it was unfortunate that India which is seen as the vaccine producer for the world there are so many deaths occurring due to the virus and so many people getting infected by it.

He suggested that a mass vaccination drive be taken up on a war footing as there was no time to lose given the fact that there is an acute shortage of hospital beds, ventilators, oxygen, ambulances and even medical staff.

He suggested that new vaccination centres be opened and in fact suggested that vaccination be conducted at panchayat levels. In Navelim Constituency, he said the educational institutes and the government school premises at Mandopa, Telaulim, Aquem Baixo, Davorlim and Rumdamol can be used as vaccination centres.

He also appealed to people to follow the COVID protocol and maintain social distancing and if possible to remain at home to protect themselves and their families.
