MARGAO: Collector South Tariq Thomas on Wednesday fixed the externment proceedings against Francis Pereira for November 9 for final hearing and directed Public Prosecutor V Costa to submit a status report on all the cases filed against him.
The Collector asked the State that had filed the application whether any chapter cases were filed against the accused and sought the status of the various cases mentioned in the complaint. PP Costa said he would get the status report at the next hearing.
Adv Eric Coutinho representing Francis pointed out that his client has been discharged from 9 cases in Margao courts where only one case was pending against him and pointed out that in four cases pending before the Quepem court, the order will be pronounced tomorrow.
He argued that since his release, not a single case including chapter case has been filed against Francis and therefore argued that the proceedings be dropped against him.
Stating that such summary proceedings had to be disposed off in eight months, the Collector said the complaint was lodged in February 2018 and the time period has nearly lapsed and added that the matter has been fixed for final arguments on November 9.
