PANJIM: Education officials have decided in principle that school hours should be extended, as ‘more time is required’ to complete the portion and evaluation required under the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation.

The tentative suggestion is that it should be extended by one hour.

It was also decided that Class X and XII exams will be conducted between April 1 and 15, and that classes for other students will he held in April to complete the required 220 instructional days.

While the decision on how long the school hours be extended hasn’t been quantified yet, it was the unanimous consensus of those present in the meeting, that while full-day school was not feasible in the current academic year, school hours be extended by an hour or so, sources present at the meeting revealed.

“It was the consensus of those in the meeting that more time is required to complete the CCE curriculum,” the source revealed adding that school hours would probably be extended by half an hour or so.

The finer points, on whether the extra hours would be added before or after current school hours, or whether there should be more teaching periods will be known only after the Education Department sends instructions to schools in this matter.

The source said reservations were raised on the issue of full day school, as many schools are being held in two shifts and having full day school would not be feasible, instead extension in school hours would be implemented as a stopgap arrangement.
