PANJIM: The situation for the Goa Medical College doctor, accused of molestation, could get worse with an eye-witness alleging that he asked the Russian molestation victim to undress despite her protests.
“The first medical examination was carried out by a female doctor without touching her (victim). Suddenly a male doctor came with two female doctors and asked me what had happened. I explained that she had some injuries on the neck,” the Russian interpreter, who was present during the medical examination, disclosed during an inquiry headed by North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan.
The interpreter said that despite the 32 year-old protesting, the male doctor asked one of his female doctors to undress her. “He suddenly put both his hands on her breasts. The victim asked me why is he doing this when there is no injury there? I had no reply… I thought this was a normal medical procedure,” she said.
The Russian tourist was on a holiday to Goa when an unknown person robbed and molested her at Baga beach at about 3 am on October 17. The matter was reported to the Calangute police who took her for medical examination to GMC where the she claimed she was allegedly molested by a senior doctor, according to Russian embassy sources.
Sources told Herald that the two female doctors had supported their senior in their testimony before the collector with a GMC source saying that the juniors cannot afford to go against him as they fear he would take revenge on them in annual reports and exams.
Meanwhile, Mohanan, when contacted by Herald said that she would submit the report to the government at the earliest. “It is my top priority. The government has asked me to submit the report at the earliest,” she said. While the main witnesses have already been examined, a few of them will be called for recording the statement soon. “The inquiry is on, on a daily basis.”
