PANJIM: Works related to roads, streetlights, pavements, painting of heritage homes will be undertaken by the government in Sao Tome and some parts of Fontainhas areas of Panjim in view of this year’s G20 Summit, Corporation of the City of Panjim Mayor Rohit Monserrate informed, on Tuesday.
He informed that the works related to sewerage and foundation for electric poles are currently being carried out and added that all these works will be completed by March 25.
“The work to hot-mix the number of roads will be taken up. Painting of heritage homes will be taken up by the government only if owners give their consent. The government departments have been asked to co-ordinate and they have told us that works related to roads, streetlights, pavements etc. will be completed by March 25,” Monserrate said after inspecting Sao Tome area along with CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira, Deputy Mayor of CCP Sanjeev Naik and others.
CCP Councillor Shubham Chodankar said that he welcomes the decision of the government to beautify the area by undertaking civic works.
“These works are required, and I extend my full support to the authorities. As far as painting heritage homes are concerned, a section of people may have apprehension over the quality of paint and work but I feel the majority of the people will give their consent and get their houses painted,” Chodankar said.
