PONDA: A tyre factory worker was crushed to death under truck wheels near Hindustan Food Company at Marvasada in Usgao, on Thursday morning.
Pradeep Shankar Za (27) was returning home on his motorcycle, after night shift, when he was crushed to death under the wheels of a loaded truck.
According to Ponda Police, the incident took place on Thursday at 8.30 am, when the victim was returning home at Datwada Usgao after night shift. After knocking down the motorcyclist, the truck dragged the victim for a distance of around ten meters. Fearing for his life, the truck driver fled from the site abandoning the truck.
However, after a few hours of search, Ponda police found the accused driver Binbahadur Ramsundar Patel and arrested him.
Meanwhile, Usgao villagers say that several vehicles are parked along the roadside for long hours due to which there is a spike in accidents.
Therefore, the villagers have demanded that the transport authorities take action against illegal parking.
This is the second such accident in which a motorcyclist has been killed under Ponda police jurisdiction. A few days ago, a youth from Mollem was killed in an accident at Dharbandora after a truck knocked him down.
