BICHOLIM: A 54-year-old man from Kudnem, Sanquelim committed suicide after he lost all hopes of resumption of mining operations.
According to available information, the incident came to light on Friday morning. The victim Ramesh Naik from Karmale, Kudnem committed suicide by jumping into a mining pit.
Naik was working at a mining company and on the closure of mining he had lost his job. The police found a suicide note near the mining pit in which he said that he is taking this step as he had lost all hopes of mining restarting.
Indian Navy divers recovered the body in the evening. Bicholim police after conducting the panchanama, sent the body to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for post-mortem examination.
Bicholim police are conducting further investigations.
