Fair Price Shop owners demand release of Rs 1 Cr in pending commissions

Warn that they will not pick up their November quota of rations unless they are paid

MARGAO: The All Goa Consumer Co-Operative Society and Fair Price Shop Owners Association (AGCCSFPSWA) have once again submitted a memorandum to the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, urging the immediate release of their commission amounting to Rs one crore under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Fair price shop owners have informed the department that they will not lift food grains for their November quota until their commission is released.

Fair price shop owners have faced financial difficulties for an extended period, making their business non-viable.

The Department is mandated under the National Food Security Act 2013 to ensure the doorstep delivery of food grains, said Gandhi Henriques, the General Secretary of AGCCSFPSWA, urging the government to address all issues re-lated to the outstanding dues. Currently, the non-payment of dues for Priority House-holds (PHH) for August, September, and October 2023 is pending.

Failure to address these issues and release the commission could potentially affect around five lakh con-sumers who rely on the distribution of food grains by fair price shop owners.
