Fake, non-ISI items sold at sales & exhibitions

Most of the stalls do not display the stall owners name and address as required per terms and conditions of the permissions granted by the District Administration

The Exhibition Cum Sales in Margao have always been in news for one reason or the other. As the festival season approaches, these exhibition cum sales are held in different locations and go completely non monitored as far as the articles sold in the exhibitions.
Thanks for the consumer rights NGOs like GOACAN, some of the spurious and non compliant sellers were identified and action was taken. However, similar things have begun repeating in the exhibitions in the town and the people of the State are vulnerable to the threats of being cheated, thugged and also run the risk of purchasing and consuming spurious items.
The Exhibition Cum Sales in Margao have the 10-day window for some of the traders who sell non branded, non ISI (Indian Standards Institution) mark goods. Recently a stall in one of the exhibitions, people claimed of selling medicines for various ailments. However, they return every single time and target the gullible Goans who are usually uninformed about the standards.
The GOACAN volunteers had earlier at an exhibition cum sale identified violations of the Consumer Protection Act 1986, Packaged Commodities Rules and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act.
It was also noticed that most of the stalls did not display the stall owners name and address as required per terms and conditions of the permissions granted by the District Administration.
Selling of non-ISI goods is also rampant at the exhibitions. In addition to that, some traders claiming to sell medicines are also playing around with the health and lives of the people and the NGO GOACAN has also warned the people on the said goods.
