PANJIM: The Pilerne Citizens Forum (PCF) has lamented that there has been absolutely no response to the letter it has written to the various central government authorities on the issues it has raised regarding Aadhaar cards, especially those being given on the basis of potentially bogus ration cards.
Adv Yatish Naik, who has taken up the issue said that none of the authorities had even acknowledged their letters, much less respond.
“Our case is simple. The government has admitted to the existence of bogus ration cards. These bogus ration cards could be used as a basis for granting fake Aadhaar cards, which in turn can now be used for availing government schemes as well as for obtaining PAN cards,”       Naik said.
He points to a circular used by a former director of civil supplies that asked government departments not to use the ration card as a proof of identity.
The PCF has written to Nandan Nilekani the chairman of the Unique Identity programme, S C Jena the Union Minister of statistics and programme management, chief secretary of Goa B Vijayan, the Governor of Goa, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde as well as the President of the India Pranab Mukherjee.
“Fake ration cards will give fake Aadhaar cards, fake Aadhaar cards will mean bogus beneficiaries, and further give rise to bogus PAN cards, jeopardizing entire government systems,” Naik concluded.
