PANJIM: The store manager-cum-activation officer of a popular cellular company has moved the local court seeking anticipatory bail, after Crime Branch  (CB) sleuths unearthed a nexus of fake SIM card involving gangster Vinayak Karbotkar – who was killed in the jail earlier this year – and two others.
The application of the woman representative of the telecom company in Goa, will be heard on May 29. “Accused has moved for anticipatory bail and matter is fixed for hearing on May 29 morning,” SP Priyanka Kashyap told Herald.
During the investigation into the Karbotkar murder, CB sleuths stumbled upon a startling revelation that he used a SIM card while in judicial lock up. The SIM card was not registered in his name, but in the name of an individual from Odisha. A case was lodged at Panjim police station alleging a nexus between the deceased, an unknown person and the SIM card retailer. “All the details in the KYC form were false and the documents were fake. The retailer did not verify the authenticity of the subscriber at the time of providing the new service to him,” an officer said.
Meanwhile, Kashyap said that the three under trials in CB custody, on suspicion of killing Karbotkar, are not cooperating with the investigation.  “We are interrogating them,” she added.
