Family among 10 from Karwar perish in Mangalore plane crash

An entire family was among the 10 persons from Karwar district who perished in the Air India plane crash at Bajape airport in Mangalore on Saturday morning.
The deceased include Mahendra Kodkani of Dandeli, Prasad Manjrekar of Sultanpur Kadwad (28), Afreen (23) and her son Abaan (3) of Jaali road, Bhatkal, Afreen’s relative, Abdul Bar (11) and Hussain Sheikh (48), residing near Govt hospital Bhatkal.
Other deceased were the entire Damodi family, comprising Mohammed Naseer Damodi (42), his children, Bibi Sara (11), Nabeeha (9) and son Suhaib (6), all from 1st Cross Bandar road, Bhatkal.
As fate would have it, Mohammed Damodi’s wife had expired barely one-and-half month ago when a Tata Sumo had collided against a bus at Kabathkod at Baindur taluka in Udupi district.
Following the tragic demise of his wife, Mohammed had taken all his three children to Dubai. They were returning to Bhatkal, when they died in the plane crash at Bajape.
Prasad Manjrekar had completed his AC mechanical course in Mangalore and had gone to Dubai two-and-half years ago. He was returning home for the first time from Dubai when he died in the plane crash.
