The incident took place around 8.30 pm at Khaddem, Barcem. The family was travelling from Karwar to Margao and the truck was heading in the opposite direction.
Irfan Sayyed aged 35, Nafisa Sayyed aged 38, Zarinha Sayyed aged 55 and two minor children were injured in the accident. The three adults who are in a critical condition have been shifted to Goa Medical College, Bambolim (GMC), and the two minor children, a boy and a girl were sent to Hospicio Hospital.
While the car has been smashed, the trucker managed to flee from the spot and is still absconding.
Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against him among other offences.
