MAPUSA: The family of 16-year- old Sahil Absar Anwar have suspected foul play in the drowning death of their son and have demanded a thorough inquiry as they claimed that the teenager was an excellent swimmer.
“My son has known swimming for the last five years and he cannot die of drowning. His height is 5.7 feet, while the place where the incident occurred had a depth of only 2 to 3 meters. How can one expect him to drown at such a spot? It’s not a deep water body where he could die of drowning,” his father Absar said.
“At 3 pm, he left with his four friends to get a cycle tube but later in the evening, we got a call from his tuition teacher that he had drowned. There was a rope as well as steps to get into that pond. Even if he was drowning, one could have easily rescued him by giving a hand. We suspect foul play because a person who can swim in sea water cannot drown at such a spot,” family members said.
The family members said “looking at the body, it did not feel like he had drowned, but it looks like he was suffocated. The body was neither swollen, nor was water found in his lungs or stomach. Also, the place where the incident is supposed to have happened is a calm and isolated place where one can do anything easily and run away.”
“We suspect foul play and demand thorough action. We have faith in the police and expect that we will get justice. He was an SSC student, friendly person and did not have any enmity with anybody,” the family informed.
