Far-sighted mega reforms top Vibrant Margao manifesto, ready relief at the least

MARGAO: The Vibrant Margao panel floated by the Bharatiya Janata Party released its manifesto today with Vibrant Margao chairman Damodar alias Damu Naik appealing to the voters to give their candidates this time at least as they have been kept away from MMC for the last three elections.

Clearing the Sonsoddo garbage dump yard tops Naik’s offering. He said the plans to clean it will be finalised by 2022 and accomplished by 2024. He claimed garbage collection from households will be streamlined to collect dry and wet garbage separately.

He said the panel will set up three multi-level parking facilities in the city. “While the one at old fish market is already tendered, we propose to set up another two of which one will be at the old pick up stand and the other will be at Kadamba Bus stand,” he said.

He said Margao will be provided with a proper bus stand which will include a bus stand for interstate buses, one for buses plying in the state and the third for town buses. “All three will be part of the mega bus stand that will be constructed by demolishing the existing bus stand,” said Damu.

He said the bus stand will have commercial establishments also to make it commercially viable and added that the government may be even asked to set up an IT park there. “We have around 1.36 lakh square meters of land there and we can come up with a really good bus stand catering to all the needs of the people at this district capital of the State,” he said.

The manifesto also promises day care centre at various places for senior citizens and said these will be set up by 2024. Rajendra said there are a few heritage houses in Margao which are on the verge of collapse as the owners cannot maintain them and said his panel if elected will restore those houses particularly those near Holy Spirit Church.

Taking cognizance of the stray dog menace in the town the panel has promised to set up a dog shelter for 500 dogs in collaboration with a NGO by 2023 and promised to put up CCTV cameras in the entire market area besides the garbage collection centre.
