Farmer complains of damage to sugarcane crop by wild animals

PONDA: A sugarcane farmer from Shigao-Collem has complained to the officials of Sanjeevani Sugar Factory that wild boars and foxes have damaged his sugarcane plantation.
The aggrieve farmer Shashikant Velip said that every year he faces losses due to wild animals. He cultivates and harvests around 120 to 140 tonnes of sugarcane and supplies it to Sanjeevani Sugar Factory at Dharbandora.
He has appealed to the government officials to look into matter and also to provide compensation for damage done by wild animals. 
He said that he obtained loans for sugarcane cultivation, but suffers losses due to the destruction caused by wild animals. 
He appealed the Agricultural, Forest as well Sugar Factory officials to look into matter and take suitable action to compensate him as well to protect his harvest from wild animals.
After a delay of nearly a month, the crushing season commenced at Sanjeevani Sugar Factory on Dec 15.
