MAPUSA: The Moira farmers have complained to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) that “illegal” constructions are being carried out without maintaining the prescribed setbacks on the banks of the local river at Sataporio.
In a written complaint to GCZMA, the Moira Katrechem Khazan Farmers Association said that violations of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) are spotted in two properties bearing survey nos 8/4 and 8/5 on the river bank without setback and no signboard is fixed at the site next to the sluice gate in the village.
Copies of the complaint have been submitted to the Moira panchayat, Captain of Ports; Deputy Collector; Assistant Director- TCP, Chief Town Planner, Mamlatdar, and BDO.
In the complaint, the farmers have requested the authorities to view the “illegal” works as dangerous activity to the livelihood, lives of farmers and all those residing along the ‘Katrechem Khazan’.
“This illegal activity of not maintaining setback is endangering the Moira River and the RCC foundation footings are likely to make the edge of the river bank to collapse and block the flow of River, as well as damage the ‘manos’ (sluice gate),” the complaint reads as.
Alleging that the Moira panchayat has been overlooking the violation, the farmers have called upon all the licencing authorities to issue stop-work order and inspect both the new constructions.
