Farmers demand fresh elections for Goa Dairy Board

PONDA: Some of Goa Dairy farmers including former chairman on Friday demanded elections for Goa Diary Board (BoD).

Farmers alleged that differences among administrative committee and Managing Director (MD) has widened to alarming level that their lack of coordination not only have affected functioning of Goa Dairy but also feared that it would impact Goa Dairy Marketing too. They  demanded immediate  removal of government appointed committee of Goa Dairy and the MD and appealed for holding fresh elections so that farmer elected BoD could run the Goa dairy affairs.

The differences occurred following lack of special general body meeting to discuss various issues, transfer of employees by administrator beyond his powers  and recruitment of staff etc.

Reportedly, two years ago, following complaints of mismanagement the Registrar Of Cooperative Societies (RCS) had dissolved the Goa Dairy Board and since then three-member Administrative Committee with farmer Durgesh Shirodkar as Administrator were looking after the affairs of Goa Dairy. Now farmers blames that the differences between Shirodkar and MD Anil Fadte. They fear that if Goa Dairy affairs are not improved, it might meet the same fate as of loss making Sanjivani Sugar Factory.  

According to chairpersons of around 41 milk supplying societies, attached to  Goa Dairy,  demanded to call for a special general body meeting to discuss  various issues, which the committee and MD failed to conduct.

When contacted for reactions, Goa Dairy administrator was ready to comment on farmers allegations.
