Expressing shock over the government decision to “snatch away” their agricultural fields, the Saipem Tollem Xetkarancho Ekvott has called for a public meeting on Sunday at 3.30 pm at the Rosary school hall, Navelim.
The farmers contended that the government had issued section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act despite objections form the people, adding that the government has now gone ahead with section 6 & 7 of the Act.
These farmers in the past had firmly opposed acquisition of their fields in and around the contaminated Saipem lake, but the government has gone ahead with the land acquisition process. The Goenchea Xetkarancho Ekvot, Navelchea Xetkarancho Ekvot and Davorlim residents, who have been opposing land acquisition in Davorlim, besides other groups, have expressed their support to the farmers opposing the land acquisition.
