MARGAO, JUNE 26
BJP leader Shaikh Jina has lamented that no serious effort has been made by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to solve the Kabrastan imbroglio and said only the BJP can resolve the long-pending demand of the minority community.
The BJP State Executive member said the state government headed by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has been found dragging its feet on the kabrastan issue despite the directions issued by the National Commission for the Minorities to the government to acquire land for the burial grounds within six months.
Jina expressed surprise that the high level meeting convened by the Chief Minister has favoured setting up the kabrastan for the Muslim community at Sonsodo near the garbage dump.
He demanded that the Kamat government implement the resolution adopted by the Goa Legislative Assembly way back in 1999, which was tabled by Kamat. “The government had earmarked land for the burial grounds in Aquem for the Hindus, Catholics and Muslims. Surprisingly, there is a move to acquire land at Sonsodo, while all formalities are reported to have been completed in respect of land at Aquem for burial grounds for the three communities”, Jina added.
He said the move to shift the site of the kabrastan from Aquem to Sosnodo is made by four persons close to the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat.
Jina maintained that majority of the Muslims in South Goa in general and Salcete in particular will not accept the Sonsodo site, even as he strongly demanded implementation of the resolution adopted by the Goa Legislative Assembly way back in 1999 and allot the land earmarked at Aquem.
