Farmers oppose construction of second Raj Bhavan with taxpayer’s money

PANJIM: A group of locals and farmers on Tuesday strongly opposed the government’s decision to construct second Raj Bhavan with tax payers’ money when the State’s economy is in dire straits.

John Lobo, a local demanded that the funds be rather used to provide better infrastructure like improvement of government hospitals, school buildings among others. “We don’t need another palace for Governor,” he said.

Sanjay Barde of Congress said that it was pitiful that the BJP government was going ahead with the second Raj Bhavan. He said that the government should undertake annual maintenance of the existing one instead.

Barde suspected that the government will lease out the existing Raj Bhavan to a private party under PPP mode.

Meanwhile, the office of the Governor has again clarified that the present building of Raj Bhavan and the Governor’s Secretariat building will remain intact and will not be disturbed or modified in any manner.
